    Comparison of safety, efficacy and perinatal outcome of isoxsuprine and nifedipine in women with preterm labour

    Background: Over the last 50 years, extensive research has been conducted with the objective of preventing, predicting and optimizing the outcome of patients with preterm labour. Currently, the therapeutic foundation for treating preterm labour involves the use of tocolysis. An attempt is made to study the tocolytic effect of Isoxsuprine and nifedipine in suppression of preterm labour.Methods: This is a prospective study, carried out in the department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology of S S institute of medical sciences and research centre, Davangere, over a period of 15 months- from October 2014 to January 2016.Results: 60 antenatal cases with 28-36 weeks of gestation with painful intermittent uterine contractions were considered for the study. Subjects were randomly allotted into two groups - Group A (Isoxsuprine) and Group B (Nifedipine) 30 patients each. Main outcomes include prolongation of pregnancy, maternal side effects and neonatal outcome were compared. Baseline characteristics were well matched in both study groups. Mean prolongation of pregnancy was 31.68 days in Nifedipine and 27.54 days in Isoxsuprine group which was statistically significant. Success rate with Nifedipine was found to be 96% as compared to Isoxsuprine which was 75%. Maternal side effects like hypotension (13.33%) and tachycardia (6.66%) were common in Isoxsuprine group, while facial flushing was seen in16.66% patients in Nifedipine group. Neonatal outcome was similar in the both groups.Conclusions: Nifedipine is a safe and effective tocolytic agent than Isoxsuprine with less maternal complications

    Efficient Retransmission QoS-Aware MAC Scheme in Wireless Sensor Networks

    In this paper, an Efficient Retransmission Random Access Protocol (ERRAP) is designed that combines scheme of collision avoidance and energy management for low-cost, short-range wireless radios and low-energy sensor nodes applications. This protocol focuses on efficient Media Access Control (MAC) schemes to provide autonomous Quality of Service (QoS) to the sensor nodes in one-hop QoS retransmission group in WSNs where the source nodes do not have receiver circuits. These sensor nodes can only transmit data to a destination node, but cannot receive acknowledgement or control signals from the destination node. The proposed scheme ERRAP provides QoS to the nodes which work independently on predefined time by allowing them to transmit each packet an optimal number of times within a given period. Our simulation results demonstrate the superiority of ERRAP scheme which increases the delivery probability and reduces the energy consumption

    QoS driven distributed multi-channel scheduling MAC protocol for multihop WSNs

    Multi-Channel Dynamic Scheduling has been centric stage of research in WSNs in recent years. In this paper, we propose a Distributed Multi-Channel Scheduling MAC communication protocol (DMS-MAC) to improve the network performance of WSNs, which selects the best channel for an individual wireless sensor node. DMS-MAC supports dynamic channel assignment mechanism where each sensor node is equipped with a directional antennas. The proposed protocol helps to decrease the probability of collision, interferences and improves the overall network performance of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). The protocol is most suitable for short packet transmission under low traffic networks and has ability to utilize parallel transmission among neighboring nodes and achieves increased energy efficiency when multi-channels are available. Simulation result shows that the proposed protocol improves the performance of aggregate throughput, probability of successful transmission, packet delivery ratio, energy consumption and average end-to-end delay

    ONE STEP QUANTIFICATION ANALYTICAL METHOD AND CHARACTERIZATION OF VALSARTAN BY LC-MS

    Objective: To develop precise LC-MS method for the estimation of valsartan impurities and perform validation as per ICH guidelines.Methods: Valsartan (VLN) and its degradation products were analyzed by reverse phase high-performance liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) using mobile phase water: acetonitrile: glacial acetic acid: phosphate buffer in the ratio of 500:500:1:0.5 v/v/v/v at 225 nm using column nucleosil C18, 125 ×4.0 mm, 5 µm. VLN sample (VLN SPL) thus obtained an unknown major impurity (UIMP) of 0.5 % at 0.38 retention time ratio (RRt) and purity of VLN was found to be 98.70 % respectively.Results: Estimation of VLN SPL total unknown impurities was found to be 1.3% by RP-HPLC. In similarly by liquid chromatography mass spectroscopy (LC-MS) a typical chromatogram of valsartan (VLN) at Rt 9.03 min and UIMP at Rt 3.3 min were recorded at a total run time of 23 min. Assay of VLN SPL was validated as per international council for harmonization (ICH) guidelines. Average % recovery was found to be 100.04 % for VLN SPL.Conclusion: The proposed work clearly indicates that the method can be easily adapted for the routine one step estimation of VLN active pharmaceutical ingredient (API)
